Biography

Dr. Silvina Bongiovanni’s main research area is experimental phonology. Her work seeks to understand how the complex connections between physical instantiation (how speakers articulate sounds), linguistic and social interpretation (how speakers assign linguistic or social meaning), and phonotactic distributions (how sounds combine with each other) come together to shape language variation. She uses a broad array of tools of acoustic analysis, alongside methods drawn from sociolinguistic frameworks and second language acquisition.

Degrees: Dual-Ph.D. in Linguistics and Hispanic Linguistics, Indiana University
