The Department of Romance and Classical Studies at Michigan State University is pleased to welcome Dr. Nicoletta Pireddu on Wednesday, January 27 at 4pm for a Zoom presentation on her work as the Inaugural Director of the Georgetown Humanities Initiative at Georgetown University, which aims to support the research and teaching of the University’s humanistic scholars. In her talk, Dr. Pireddu, will discuss the objectives of the Initiative, past and current projects by the Initiative, as well as her vision for future work and events, particularly in collaboration with world language and SLA scholars and departments. View the full flyer HERE.

Nicoletta Pireddu is Professor of Italian and Comparative Literature at Georgetown University and Inaugural Director of the Georgetown Humanities Initiative. She holds a Ph.D. in Comparative Literature from UCLA and one in English and American Literatures from Università “Ca’ Foscari” in Venice, Italy. 

Her research and publications revolve around interdisciplinary approaches to literature, translation studies, and intellectual history, with particular attention to the idea of Europe and the Mediterranean, transnational identities, borders, and migration. Her projects have been sponsored by fellowships from leading institutions like the National Endowment for the Humanities, the Howard Foundation at Brown University, and the Borchard Foundation. Prof. Pireddu is also the recipient of the American Association for Italian Studies Book Award, the “Mario Soldati” Award for literary criticism, the Dean’s Award for Excellence in Teaching, and the Distinguished Service Award.
