Fullbright US Student Program Information Session

For those not familiar with the Fulbright program, this two-minute overview answers the question “What is Fulbright?”

  • This is a competitive grant program funded by the US Department of State that enables US citizen students to do research, study, or teach English abroad.
  • These awards are open to all Spartans who will have a BA/BS by the time the grant would begin in 2022, so students who will be seniors next year can apply – if your advisees have longer to go before graduation, they can still think about Fulbright and have plenty of time to plan their application. Masters and PhD students may also apply.
  • Awards provide round-trip airfare, a maintenance allowance based on living costs in the host country, supplemental insurance, tuition (in some cases), and language or orientation courses where appropriate.
  • The competition will open March 31; the MSU deadline is September 1, and the national deadline will be in October. The MSU deadline allows me enough time to set up a campus interview so applicants receive feedback and have time to make revisions before the national deadline.
