Romance and Classical Studies Education Abroad Scholarships
The Language Study Scholarships are a financial award to be used to toward a credit-bearing RCS sponsored semester-long or summer international experience in French, Spanish or Italian. The number of scholarships available varies from year to year. Applications are due November 1st for the spring program and April 1st for summer, fall, and academic year programs. Foreign Language Area Studies (FLAS)
The FLAS Program is administered by the US Department of Education and is intended for both undergraduate and graduate students in any discipline in order to promote priority less-commonly taught languages of Latin America and the Caribbean, including Portuguese. Students who are graduating but planning to attend MSU for graduate school are eligible to apply for the graduate student fellowships especially if they would like to begin studying another Latin American language. So, if they have advanced proficiency in Spanish, they could take a beginning less commonly taught language such as Portuguese, Haitian Creole or Quechua.
The application deadline is February 10th, but students are urged to begin assembling application materials early.

Critical Language Scholarship For Summer Study Abroad
The CLS Program is a fully-funded intensive language and cultural immersion study abroad program for American students at U.S. colleges and universities. Each summer, students spend eight weeks abroad studying one of 15 critical languages, including Arabic, Chinese, Hindi, Japanese, Korean, Russian and Urdu. The program includes intensive language instruction and structured cultural enrichment experiences designed to promote rapid language gains.
The CLS Program is a program of the U.S. Department of State, and it is part of a wider government initiative to expand the number of Americans studying and mastering foreign languages that are critical to national security and economic prosperity. CAL Experiential Learning Scholarship
The College of Arts & Letters has multiple scholarships for experiential learning opportunities including study abroad, study away, and internships. These financial awards are to be used toward MSU-approved, credit-bearing programs. Applicants must be full-time undergraduate, degree-seeking students with a major in the College of Arts & Letters. Please review the requirements for each scholarship category in the application. Submit only one application and your materials will be reviewed under the following five categories: Foreign Language Scholarship, Beyond Boundaries Scholarship, Excel Network Scholarship, Study Away Scholarship, Independent Internship, and Supplemental Citizen Scholar Award. These awards are eligible for summer, fall, spring academic year programs. The application deadlines: October 1 for spring programs, Dec 15 for spring break programs, April 1 for summer, fall and academic year programs.
Arts & Letters Endowed Scholarship Fund for Study Abroad
Applicants must be in their junior year when applying and be a primary major in the College of Arts & Letters. Applicants must write a statement of purpose that will focus on the integration of their international education and their personal career objectives. The amount of the award depends on available funds and will be credited during the tuition payment process. This award is eligible for summer, fall, and academic year programs only. The application deadline is March 1.
John W. Eadie Scholarship in Arts & Letters for International Education
Applicants must be a primary major in Arts and Letters, be junior standing (56-87 earned credits), have a minimum GPA of 2.5, and reach senior standing by the following summer or fall semester. The amount of the award depends on available funds. The award will be credited during the summer or fall tuition payment process. This award is eligible for summer, fall, and academic year programs only. The application deadline is March 1.
Margie L. Rodgers Gillette Endowed Scholarship for Study Abroad
This scholarship is intended to benefit students pursuing a degree in the College of Arts & Letters who choose to participate in a study abroad program within the College. This scholarship is intended for students with financial need. Preference shall be given to students in their junior/senior year who are majoring in a foreign language with a minimum GPA of 3.0. This award is eligible for summer programs only. The application deadline is March 1.
Ryder Scholarship
All MSU students who are planning to study abroad are eligible to apply for this scholarship. Past recipients have had a GPA of 3.5 or above. The amount of the award depends on available funds. The award will be credited during the tuition payment process. This award is eligible for summer, fall, and academic year programs only. The application deadline is March 1.
Robert and Catherine Workman Endowed Scholarship for Study Abroad in Arts & Letters
This scholarship is intended to benefit students pursuing a degree in the College of Arts & Letters who choose to participate in a study abroad program within the College. Applicants must be full-time students in good standing with a declared major in the College of Arts and Letters and a GPA of 3.0 or above. Applicants must also have applied to a CAL study abroad program. This award is eligible for summer programs only. The application deadline is March 1.
