Ryan is a master’s student and teaching assistant in the Department of Romance and Classical Studies. He holds a BS in Spanish for the Professions and Business Administration from Ferris State University. His interest in Romance languages began in high school, where he studied French under Beth Smedley and studied Portuguese on his own. While at Ferris State, Ryan worked as a field organizer and interpreter for the Somos Votantes campaign in southwest Detroit. In 2023, Ryan studied in Troyes, France during a six-month exchange program. Additionally, Ryan received a 2024-2025 FLAS fellowship to study Portuguese.
