French Language Learning Center
Focusing on students' learning success proficiency
The French Language Learning Center is a space where students can come for help and practice to support and deepen their knowledge of the French language. Students are welcome to consult with Learning Assistants on their French class work.
Our primary focus is on offering assistance to students in French classes; however, we welcome all students of French, regardless of the class(es) they are enrolled in.
In addition, we provide conversation hours that are open to a wider population of Spartans, whether or not they are enrolled in French classes.
For Fall 2024, the French Language Learning Center is open:
- In-person from 2 p.m. – 6 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday in Wells Hall B125.
- Virtually from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. on Monday and Wednesday through Zoom at https://msu.zoom.us/j/91385330574.
FAQ
Make at least one attempt to do your work on your own before coming to the FLLC. Your visit will be more productive if you can identify problem areas and ask specific questions.
French Language Learning Assistants will not do your assignment for you. Instead, they will work to clarify instructions, find resources to help with language questions (such as vocabulary or grammar), identify problems and guide you toward solutions. They can provide general feedback on patterns of mistakes and offer suggestions, but will not give you the correct answers. It is up to you to decide what feedback is useful to you.
The French Language Learning Center does not report student progress nor attendance to instructors. Under the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 (FERPA), reports maintained internally are considered education records, and thus require special handling (i.e., students’ consent). The Center will keep track of who attends and for what question(s) but this information is used internally for scheduling and staffing purposes only.
Students may be asked to participate in research projects linked with the mission of the French Language Learning Center. Such participation follows the guidelines set forth by MSU’s Human Research Protection Program and will not be mandatory.
