FRN 340: Connecting with the literatures of the Francosphere

Fall, Spring, and Summer of Every Year | 3 credits

What can a novel from the Caribbean, a poem from North Africa, or a play from Paris teach us about identity, resilience, and belonging?
FRN 340 opens the door to the literary worlds of the Francophone world—where French is the common language, but every story is rooted in a different place, culture, and perspective.

From the lyrical voices of African poets to the bold narratives of Caribbean authors, you’ll read works that challenge assumptions, celebrate difference, and offer new ways of seeing the world.

In this course, you will:

  • Travel through stories across Europe, the Caribbean, and Africa—without leaving your seat
  • Explore how colonialism, migration, memory, and language shape literary expression
  • Engage with authors who speak from the margins, the center, and everywhere in between
  • Build your analytical skills through deep reading, vibrant discussion, and cultural context

This isn’t just about reading books—it’s about hearing voices, seeing worlds, and connecting with a global French-speaking community through literature.

Let the pages take you places. Enroll in FRN 340: Connecting with the Literatures of the Francosphere.
