Research Interests: Laetitia’s current research focuses on accentedness and pronunciation in French learners.

For her dissertation, she wants to explore how social and identity elements link to pronunciation and how personal factors in learners’ backgrounds may influence their accentedness over time by using primarily qualitative-oriented approaches.

Laëtitia Kokx is a Ph.D. student in French and Francophone Studies with an Interdisciplinary concentration in Second Language Studies. She is a Teaching Assistant in the Department of Romance and Classical Studies at Michigan State University. She holds a Maîtrise in Language Didactics from the Université of Angers and earned her MA degree in Language Didactics from the Université de Le Mans. Laëtitia taught French and Italian at beginner and intermediate levels in different contexts for several years.

At MSU, she actively participates in several academic activities, including serving on the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusivity (DEI) and Recruitment and Retention committees, assisting with the organization of the French Film Festivals, and mentoring as a Learning Assistant at the French Language Learning Center (FLLC). 

Her study, “Accentedness Implications on French-Language Learners’ Identity and Investment: A Case Study” (Kokx, 2024), has been published in the Proceedings of the 14th Pronunciation in Second Language Learning and Teaching Conference (pp. 1-11), Purdue University, September 2023 (https://doi.org/10.31274/psllt.17654).
