SPN 101: Elementary Spanish I

Fall, Spring, and Summer | 4 credits

Spanish 101 is where learners take their first steps on their Spanish-language journey. This course is designed for students with no prior Spanish-language experience or who have a significant time gap since their last Spanish class.

Students can expect an immersive classroom experience where Spanish will be used every single day by their instructor and classmates as they all work together toward Spanish proficiency. In addition to learning key vocabulary and basic grammar, students will benefit from two 15-minute conversations with native Spanish speakers and explore a wide variety of integrated cultural topics from across the Spanish-speaking world.

Communication is key in this class, as students will develop their own intercultural competency alongside their Spanish language abilities.

What You’ll Learn:

  • tell someone what I’m going to do this week and ask about their plans for the week.

  • introduce myself and ask someone else to do the same.

  • describe my positive and negative personality traits, using 3 to 5 words/phrases.

  • describe how I like my food prepared.

  • suggest activities that I would prefer for existing holidays or suggest a new holiday and how to celebrate it.

Course Details:
