SPN 201: Second-Year Spanish I
SPN 201: Second-Year Spanish I
Fall, Spring, and Summer | 4 credits
Spanish 201 brings real-world application to the Spanish classroom. This course is designed for students with significant prior Spanish-language experience—typically one or two years at the high school level or two semesters at the university level.
Students can expect an immersive classroom experience where Spanish will be used every single day by their instructor and classmates as they all work together toward Spanish proficiency. Over the semester, students will develop projects that will become part of a personalized portfolio to showcase their Spanish skills. To support these projects, students will participate in three 30-minute conversations with native Spanish speakers that guide reflection and deepen communication abilities.
This course also provides students with community-engaged learning hours that count toward the Spartan Volunteer Service Award. As students reflect on how language shapes our daily experiences—both in-person and online—they’ll strengthen their ability to communicate meaningfully and thoughtfully.
Communication is key in this class, as students will continue building their intercultural competency alongside their Spanish language skills.
