Announcing the 2024 SIECLAF Conference Keynote: Prof. Rocío Quispe-Agnoli’s Participation and Presentations

Michigan State University recognizes the outstanding participation of Prof. Rocío Quispe-Agnoli, who recently served as a keynote speaker at the 2024 SIECLAF (Simposio Interdisciplinario y Encuentro de Creadores de Literatura y Artes Fantásticas) conference in Lima, Peru. Held at the Museo Metropolitano de Lima from October 24 to October 27, the event brought together creators, scholars, and enthusiasts of speculative and fantastic literature from across Latin America.

Prof. Quispe-Agnoli’s keynote, “Ficción especulativa del Sur Global: de la ciencia ficción al futurismo en la literatura peruana,” explored the evolution of speculative fiction in the Global South. Her talk examined how Peruvian literature blends science fiction and futurism to envision future possibilities, with a focus on how marginalized voices shape cultural and national identities. She also highlighted the intersection of ancestral knowledge and modern technology in Latin American literature, offering insights into how these elements contribute to a dynamic vision of the future.

In addition to the keynote, Prof. Quispe-Agnoli participated in several presentations:

  • October 25: Delivered the keynote address, Ficción especulativa del Sur Global
  • October 27: Joined a panel on Terror, Horror, y lo Grotesco/Gore: Definiciones y Tendencias
  • October 29: Hosted a screening of the Qhipa Pacha film trailers at Cine Umbral in Arequipa
  • October 30: Presented her latest book, Qhipa Pacha: Futurismo Peruano. Antología Bilingüe

Each presentation offered engaging discussions and fresh perspectives, demonstrating how speculative fiction from Latin America serves as a platform for futuristic imagination and social commentary.
