PRT340: Topics in Culture – Regional Cultures of Brazil

SS25 – Tue: 3:00 PM – 4:50 PM

Have you ever dreamed of visiting Brazil? PRT 340: Regional Cultures of Brazil will take you on a guided tour of the country’s incredible diversity without even needing a plane ticket. This class, led by Professor Saulo Gouveia, is a cultural exploration of Brazil’s five unique regions, each offering its own blend of history, traditions, art, and lifestyles.

In addition to exploring Brazil’s regions, you’ll explore the Brazilian diaspora, discovering how Brazilian culture has influenced and adapted to life around the world, especially in places like the United States.

All units are introduced by a text with a historical overview of the region in question, followed by audio-visual material, activities, and a weekly discussion forum. This course goes beyond traditional learning by fostering interactive discussions that allow you to engage with other students and share perspectives.

Whether you’re into cultural studies, history, or just curious about what makes Brazil so unique, this class offers a rare chance to get a close-up view of one of the world’s most fascinating countries.

Register for PRT 340 if you’re ready to understand Brazil’s heartbeat—its people, its stories, and its legacy around the globe.
